coxoutage.us is an independent, user-reported outage tracking site. We are not affiliated with, operated by, or endorsed by Cox Communications.

What information we collect

• Outage reports: when you submit a report, we store the city/ZIP code, issue type, an optional description you write, and an approximate location — never your exact home address.
• Feedback and reviews: if you use the feedback tool, we store the name you enter (or “Anonymous” if left blank), your star rating, and your comment.
• IP address (hashed, not stored in plain form): we use a one-way hashed version of your IP address solely to prevent spam/abuse of the report system. We do not store your raw IP address, and the hash cannot be reversed back into your actual IP.
• Standard technical data: like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information (such as browser type) for security and performance purposes.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent spam submissions. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software
information (such as device data) and sends it to Google for analysis. Your use of this site is subject to
Google’s own Privacy Policy
and Terms of Service.

Third-party services we use

• Map data: our live map uses OpenStreetMap tile imagery.
• ZIP code lookup: when you report or browse by ZIP code, we send that ZIP code to the free public API at zippopotam.us to resolve it to a city/state.
• Advertising: we may display ads (such as Google AdSense) to support the cost of running this site. Ad providers may use cookies to serve relevant ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more about your options at Google Ads Settings.

How we use this information

Report and feedback data is used solely to operate the core purpose of this site — showing other visitors
real, current outage activity and public reviews. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Your choices

Reports and reviews are optional — you can use the live map and browse city pages without submitting anything
yourself. If you’d like a report or review you submitted removed, contact us using the information below.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
