Looking for a Power Outage? Cox Doesn’t Provide Electricity

If your internet, cable, or phone stopped working along with your lights, this is likely an electric utility outage — not a Cox service issue.

How to tell the difference

  • If your lights are also out, this is almost always your local electric utility, not Cox. Cox provides internet, TV, and phone service — not electricity.
  • If your modem/router has no lights at all, check whether it’s actually receiving power (a tripped breaker or a loose power cable can look identical to an internet outage).
  • If your lights are on but internet/cable/phone is down, that’s a genuine Cox-side issue — check our live outage map or report it here.

Reporting an electric power outage

If it is your electricity that’s out, you’ll need to contact your local electric utility directly — Cox has no way to see or fix
power outages. Search for “[your city] power outage” or your electric utility’s name to find their outage map and reporting line.

Power’s back, but your internet still isn’t?

Modems and routers sometimes need a manual restart after a power outage:

  • Unplug your modem and router for about 30 seconds
  • Plug the modem back in first, and wait until its lights settle (usually 1–2 minutes)
  • Then plug in your router and give it another minute or two to reconnect

Still not working after that? Report it here or check the live outage map to see if others in your area are affected too.
