FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about how this Cox outage tracker works.
Is this an official Cox Communications website?
No. This is an independent, user-reported outage tracker. It’s not affiliated with, operated by, or endorsed by Cox Communications. Reports here come from real visitors like you, not from Cox’s internal systems.
How do I know if Cox is actually down in my area?
Check the live outage map or your city’s page — every dot is a real report from someone else nearby. If you’re seeing several recent (red) reports close to you, it’s likely a wider outage rather than just your own equipment.
How do I report an outage?
Click Report an Outage anywhere on the site, choose whether to search by city or ZIP code, pick what’s affected, and submit. It takes about 15 seconds and shows up on the map right away.
What do the red, blue, and green dots mean?
They show how recent each report is: red means reported in the last 48 hours, blue means 2–7 days ago, and green means older than 7 days. This helps you tell a fresh, active outage apart from old reports that may no longer be relevant.
Why don’t I see any reports for my city?
No reports usually just means nobody nearby has reported an issue recently — it’s a good sign, not a broken feature. If you’re personally experiencing an outage, be the first to report it and help others in your area.
How long do Cox outages typically last?
It varies widely depending on the cause — a local equipment issue might resolve in under an hour, while damage from severe weather or major infrastructure problems can take much longer. Checking recent reports in your area is the best way to gauge whether others are seeing the same timeline.
Does Cox offer refunds or credits for outages?
Cox may offer service credits for extended outages, but eligibility and the process depend on your specific account and service agreement. Contact Cox directly (see our outage phone number page for how to find their current support number) to ask about credit for an outage you experienced.
My lights are also out — is this Cox’s problem?
No — if your electricity is out, that’s your local electric utility, not Cox. Cox provides internet, TV, and phone service, not power. See our power outage page for how to tell the difference and what to check.
My city isn’t listed — what should I do?
Use the Report by ZIP Code option on the report page instead of searching by city name. It’ll automatically attach your report to the nearest city we do track, so it still shows up on a real, relevant page.
Does this work on my phone?
Yes — the whole site, including the live map and report form, works on mobile browsers.
Can I see reports for a specific type of issue, like WiFi or TV?
Yes — use the filter buttons on the live outage map, or visit the dedicated page for your issue type: WiFi, Cable/TV, Phone, or Business.
